Alright, here’s how today’s deep dive went down. Wanted to build a killer fantasy team for the Vincy T10 Blast on Dream11, focusing on my process, warts and all.
Starting Point: Pure Overwhelm
So, fired up the Dream11 app first thing this morning. Saw that Vincy Premier League splash screen staring back at me. Honestly? Felt a bit swamped right away. So many teams and players I barely knew. Remembered needing to actually look stuff up this time, not just guess.
Went hunting for recent player stats. Scrolled through screens, trying to find who actually scored runs or took wickets last season. Took way longer than I thought. Found this list of players with their points from 2020. Printed it out – felt more real on paper. Highlighted names like Kirk McKenzie because the numbers looked decent.
Team Builder Struggle
Back to the app, clicked ‘Create Team’. Budget felt stupidly tight instantly. My shortlist stars were mostly “Premium” players. Needed cheaper options fast.
- Wicketkeeper First: Decided to grab the keeper early. Liked this guy Miles Bascombe. Cost a fair bit but felt reliable.
- All-Rounder Hunt: Knew these guys were gold. Snapped up Obed McCoy immediately. Fast bowler who sometimes bats? Yes please. Keron Cottoy felt expensive but grabbed him too.
- Spenders: Then tried adding Kesrick Williams. Nope. Too pricey. Swore a bit. Dropped him. Looked at Andre Fletcher next. Wanted him bad for batting… still too rich. Ugh. Settled for cheaper batters like Cody Horne.
Kept shuffling players in and out. Screen flashing red warnings about exceeding credits. Frustrating! Felt like playing Tetris with names. Needed more bowlers. Found this guy Othneil Lewis mentioned in my scribbled notes as a wicket-taker. Took a punt on him.
Last-Minute Panic Changes
Thought I was done. Scrolled through the final lineup: Bascombe (WK), Horne, Simmons, Cottoy, Charles, Lewis, Hooper, McCoy, Edwards, Bobb, Brown.
Double-checked the player roles. Damn it. Did I even pick a captain yet? Totally forgot. Flipped a mental coin and threw the ‘C’ on Obed McCoy. Figured he could deliver wickets. Made Andre Fletcher Vice-Captain just in case he went big.
Final Thoughts (Before the Crushing Reality)
Hit submit. Team looked… okay? Balanced? Had a mix: my two expensive all-rounders (McCoy, Cottoy), a wicketkeeper batsman (Bascombe), hopefully solid batters (Simmons, Horne), a spinner who should bowl full overs (Hooper), and some promising fast bowlers (Edwards, Lewis).
Budget squeezed every penny. Prayed the cheaper guys didn’t lay goose eggs. Already had regrets about maybe needing Kesrick Williams if he blasted someone out. That’s fantasy cricket though. Guess we’ll see how spectacularly wrong I got it soon enough.
