Wanting Some Cricket Fun
Been missing playing cricket games recently, especially the old ones from when I was younger. Remembered Cricket 07 used to be awesome, so figured I’d try installing it on my Windows 10 laptop. Wasn’t sure if it’d work on modern systems but decided to give it a shot.
Finding the Game Files
First thing was getting the game files since my original CD got scratched years ago. Scoured my old external hard drives and luckily found a backup folder labeled “Old Games” with cricket 07 inside. Copied the whole thing to my desktop.
The Installation Hurdle
Tried running * straight away but got this annoying error about compatibility. Right-clicked the installer, went to properties, and checked “Run this program in compatibility mode” for Windows XP Service Pack 3. Also ticked “Run as administrator”.
Working Through Setup
After that, the installer finally opened! Just kept clicking next through all the default options:
- Agreed to the license terms
- Chose default install location
- Let it create desktop shortcut
Pressed finish when done. Easy so far.
Dealing with Modern Systems
Game wouldn’t start initially – just showed black screen then crashed. Found out online that disabling visual themes helps. Went into shortcut properties again and checked “Disable visual themes” under compatibility tab.
Final Tweaks
Also changed the game resolution to 800×600 in graphics settings since it looked stretched on my monitor. Did quick controls check to make sure keyboard worked properly. Had to adjust fielding controls later.
Playing At Last
Started a test match against Australia. Game felt clunky but man, the nostalgia hit hard when I hit my first boundary! Took about an hour total with all the tweaking. Worth it for reliving those school-day memories.
